‘In Pericula: At Risk’ was filmed in the Life Science Museum, King College, London and is the outcome of a residency. A performer is filmed inside the museum wearing a hybrid costume created from prints of bones, horns, shells and corals – objects preserved and classified in the museum collections. The costume becomes a canvas for the enactment of a loss of biodiversity. A soundtrack of children reciting the names of different species currently on the red list accompanies footage of a scientist carefully labelling specimens. The animated film explores themes of separateness and inter-connection between human and more-than-human life.
The film was nominated for AltFF Alternative Film Festival, Toronto (2022); selected for the INEFF festival and symposium (International Network of Experimental Filmmaking Festival), at MediaCity, University of Salford, (2023); selected for Experimental Brasil’ film festival, Campos Dos Goytacazes, Rio De Janeiro State, Brazil (2024); selected for ‘CuVo’ film festival, Spain (2024).
