‘Sticky Wicked’ is an large drawing made onsite at the University of Exeter during a creative fellowship in environmental justice. The image merges and layers different types of data-maps representing the distribution of diverse species and habitats with human habitation. In doing so, it asks whose needs are met in this environment? The circular format suggests the earth but the map drawing is based on the local area because global problems often arise as a result of not listening to local voices. I worked with pencil because carbon is central to the environmental crisis
The concepts of ‘sticky’ and ‘wicked’ refer to complex problems that are difficult to define, resistant to change and have no fixed solutions.
